Her EAGALA training, combined with over 40 years of professional equine experience, has shaped her deep interest in the relationship between humans and horses. Suzanne brings energy, passion, and confidence to her work, while quietly and intuitively allowing the horses to lead the process alongside clients.

Denise Sadleir

Denise is a joint founder of CANter and has been a certified Equine Assisted Psychotherapist (EAP) since 2015. She combines her EAGALA training with over 20 years of experience as a qualified psychotherapist and is a registered Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Her extensive professional experience and specialist training have strengthened her passion for working in partnership with both humans and horses. “The experiential approach within this model has led to remarkable outcomes and, on many occasions, has been life-changing for clients from a wide range of backgrounds.”

Sue Chambers

Sue joined CANter in 2022 and qualified as a certified Equine Assisted Psychotherapist (EAP) in 2023. Having grown up with horses, she brings a valuable dual perspective to the team, combining extensive equine experience with her work as a psychotherapeutic counsellor. She is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Sue has a strong belief in human potential and the capacity for personal growth, and she is deeply committed to empowering others, particularly young people. Her years of horse ownership have given her a profound understanding of the empathic qualities of horses, the power of unconditional acceptance, and the restorative nature of partnership.
woody

Woody was born in 2000, and is an old Irish sport horse. He began his career eventing & left, moving on to become a consistently successful dressage horse.

We consider him to be a rather sensitive wise old owl, who rarely misses a trick.

He has been doing these equine assisted programmes on & off since 2009.

Tanner

Tanner was born in 2003 & is an appaloosa gelding that is the most inquisitive of the herd. He is a talented horse, who has been placed in the top 10 National not only for Pony Club & Riding Club but also as an individual superstar. Nevertheless he loves the equine programmes & fully engages with everybody, often bringing a smile to faces.
Duchess

Duchess was born in 2010 and is a sensitive registered Irish Draught horse. After coming over from Ireland in 2017 she began a successful show jumping career. In 2019 after settling in at "the Stables"  Duchess has widened her horizons!

Her newest challenge is to become an event horse along with joining the therapy team. Duchess is an honest and kind horse with a huge sense of fun her gentle maternal nature has meant she has taken to therapy work very quickly indeed and just adores being with the children!

velvet

Velvet was born in 2012 and is a shetland pony. She joined our team in 2022 and has proved to be invaluable, especially when working with younger children.

Having a smaller member of our team allows us to cater for even the most cautious and nervous individuals as her size is far less intimidating for little people.
minty

Minty was born in 2009 and is a fell pony who has had a varied career, recently joining the CANter team in 2022. He has shown to be sensitive and engaging with the children.

Kitty joined CANter in 2023 after qualifying as a certified Equine Specialist with EAGALA. Having been around horses all her life, she believes strongly in their ability to help people gain deeper insight and understanding of themselves. She is currently studying Psychology with Counselling, which will, in time, enable her to take on a dual role within the team. Kitty is empathetic and observant, bringing warmth and thoughtful awareness to her work. Since joining CANter, she has proven to be a valued and trusted member of the team.

Daisy is a mini shetland born in 2011. She has done some pony club but is now enjoying working in the team with her friend Velvet. She has a totally different energy but is beginning to connect to the children and seems to be enjoying the work. once feeling confident she loves having cuddles and a fuss made of her.
